Coming Up To Date

Following on from last time, we were at the week from hell as I refer to it. I got a call from my mum early on the Monday morning to say there was something wrong with my dad.  Now to let you understand, my dad had been in and out of hospital at various times over the previous two years.  His mobility was awful, he went blind after a severe case of shingles affected his eyes, although that wasn't the main cause of the blindness it was the last straw.  He had five different things wrong with his eyes, not least a very dense cataract over each eye.  He got one removed but didn't regain much sight, really just more light, the consultant said there was no point removing the other one as there was no sign of any life behind that eye anyway.  The consultant said my dad couldn't have been more unlucky to have so many things wrong with his eyes, he said it would be unlucky to have two or three of them but to have five was ridiculously unlucky.  My gran, his mum, w...

Life Is A Soap Opera

Back to my soap opera life! At times it feels like my life jumps from one drama to the next.  I'm not sure if it's because we have three very different children who all bring various aspects to our life.   We have eldest son.  He's the least confident of our children.  He's very serious, gentle, a hard worker and the one who's worried us the most probably!  He wanted nothing more than to settle with a wife, the picket fence and children but it didn't happen for him and he's brought some 'crackers' into our life while trying to find 'the one'.  Thankfully, he seems to have found her now and also thankfully, we love her!   Our daughter, the middle child, has also brought her very own brand of drama to our life!   She had her son when she was 20 at a time when she had been planning to go and live and work in Spain with some friends.  That will tell you all it needs to, however, her boyfriend, the father, took full responsibility...

I had surgery, chemo and radiotherapy.  It was hard and scary but I got through it, losing my hair on the way.  I went from having a long blonde bob to short, very straight grey hair. This photo was taken when I lost my hair at first and got my daughter and husband to clipper the rest off!  This also fell out but left me, weirdly, with a head of very fine blonde fluff!  It was cold having no hair but I embraced the baldness and didn't wear the wig the NHS provided for me. My youngest surprised me by arriving on my doorstep dressed as santa just before Christmas that year....
