Nae Luck!

Have you heard the saying 'if you didn't have bad luck you'd have no luck'?  That is what I just said to my daughter today!   I think I've mentioned her husband was/is a pilot.  He worked in Dubai till last June when he was furlowed on no pay - it was Dubai!  He managed to get home before all the flights stopped and has been home since.  He took over hubbys handyman business as hubby wanted to retire and is doing ok at it but it doesn't bring in nearly the same amount as a pilot, especially just now when he can only do 'essential' work - thankfully there have been a lot of blocked toilets!!  This could be where all the toilet paper went!  Anyway - his aunt gave him her old car to use to get around which was great till it broke last week.

  It's a BMW X3 and apparently the turbo has gone.  I have not got a clue what that actually means but its an expensive part to fix- over a thousand pounds.  Then tonight my daughter phoned her dad to ask about parts for a washing machine.  It would appear their washing machine is on its last legs now.

 To be fair, its about 8 years old and is on constantly but nevertheless, they could do without the expense of a new one right now.  Then just to cap it all off, there is an offer at the moment in our area to get a new boiler and underfloor insulation from the local council with a grant.  You have to pay £500 towards it but you get a new boiler and insulated and when I spoke to my son he assured me its a brilliant deal as the boiler alone would cost over one thousand pounds without installation.  So, we got the engineer to check if we were eligible and we are and we asked them to check their house which they did today so we wait to see if they too will get the funding!  Of course that means they need to find more money again and to be honest, they just don't have it at the moment.  We've offered to pay for the boiler for now for them as we feel their old boiler will probably go any day if they don't replace it!  As for the car and the washing machine I don't know what they will do.  My daughter is doing as much overtime as she can at her work and he doesn't qualify for any of the government help as he's not been self employed long enough and its based on tax returns which he hasn't had to do yet.  Its a mess and very unlucky for it all to come along at once. I might have to try the lottery this week!

Updated to say my grandson has offered to buy them a new washing machine.  He works in a supermarket too and has nowhere to go to spend his wages so he's feeling quite flush at the moment.  Now we just need a car fairy to come along! 

Updated again to say they managed to find a place that does refurbished car parts so it won't cost as much as first quoted!  Maybe luck is on their side after all!!
