The Olden Days!

Image
Although I have no plans to blog again regularly I felt I should balance my last quite depressing missive with something a bit more uplifting. I was reminded of 'olden days' school trips on the blog 'Random Thoughts'.  In those days the teachers took us off on all sorts of adventures with not a care for health and safety. One such trip took us, a group of very silly schoolgirls of about 15 years old, a 'walk' up a Munro in Scotland.  I don't remember which one it was or what month we went, however I think it must have been springtime as we set off in lovely weather. I had my new serious school shoes on.  Brown lace up brogues.  That was as close to walking/hiking shoes I had.  For the first while it was ok.  It started off with a gentle incline as hills often do.  As the incline got steeper there began to be snow on the ground and by the time we got near the top we were knee deep in snow!  I often wonder now why we kept going as I don't reme...

Too Much At One Time

Image
I'm feeling a bit fed up at the moment.  I'm fed up with lockdown.  I know we're not in full lockdown like before but now that we can't have anyone to visit the house it feels real again.  It's also causing problems for me and yes I know many have worse problems than mine but it doesn't mean mine don't count.   As I've previously mentioned I have some friends in my life who are struggling.  One is terminally ill and one has serious family problems.  My T.I. friend isn't a problem in that we facetime chat every week.  I've not seen her in real life since the very start of the 'real' lockdown when I rushed over to her house to deliver a mask I made for her to attend a hospital appointment at a time when masks were like hens teeth.  However, I see her deterioration weekly and I want more than anything to go and give her a big hug.  She won't permit it as she has lots of nurses in and out of the house now but I'm so sad about it.  My ...

Just A Quickie!

Thank you everybody for your good wishes for Sonny.  We had him at the vet again today and he's been given the all clear!  He's still on the anti inflamatories for another week but he's off all the other pain meds.  It would appear he probably pulled a muscle and put his back out which of course would be very painful and being a dog he wouldn't understand what was wrong with him. Sonny is quite a drama queen although normally we'd have expected more whining from him but his silent, tail down slink was the worst to deal with.   We're now filling in all sorts of insurance claim forms and to be fair our insurers (who are clearly still working from home) have been excellent and very helpful on the phone. We've told our old vet to send Sonnys records to the new vet and after we pay them (an extortionate amount for the very little they did) we will bid them goodbye and never darken their doorstep again. I see no good reason to stay with any professional you don...

Something Happened!

Image
Having just said I'm not doing this just now because nothing is happening.  Something then happened!  Our dog got sick.  I'm worried sick about him.  It's become a 'be careful what you wish for' moment in life.   I was just saying to hubby the other day, 'I wish Sonny wouldn't curl himself round my chair when I'm at the table, he's a blooming nuisance'.  What I would give today for him to curl himself round my chair.  He's lying in the living room looking very very sorry for himself and no wonder.  It appears he may have a liver condition.  It's making him extremely lethargic, he doesn't know how to use his legs to get up or down, he can't jump up onto the couch or a chair and can't even manage any stairs.  The vet said his tummy is very tender but she daren't give him anything yet for it as his urine sample we were thankfully able to get, showed signs of a liver problem.  They have taken blood from him and the test result...

Do You Know What...

... I don't think I'm going to carry on blogging for now.  For no particular reason, no-one is harrassing me, there's no big drama in my life but to be honest I just can't be bothered thinking up things to blog about. Life is spectacularly quiet in our corner of the world.  We go nowhere and mainly just mess about at home doing housework and gardening and reading and watching telly.  There's nothing much worth writing about in that lot. I have opinions on the state of the world.  Today in particular I feel very annoyed with everything.  I think governments around the world have a lot to answer for and I'm disgusted that power has taken over from being decent human beings.   Hubby read a very valid quote to me yesterday: ' We now have smart phones and stupid people.'  How right that is!  I don't want to do a political opinion blog as I don't want to attract the nutters! Today I've ordered some airtight containers on Amazon for flour, rice etc....

Change For Change Sake!

Image
So, Blogger, you have changed.  I see more little icons across the top and none of the words that used to be down the side, I can't remember what it used to say down the side, I think it was where the stats etc lived? This feels like a change for the sake of a change to me.  Apparently you look no different on phones, perhaps its easier to create posts on a phone?  I don't use my phone for blogging and I only read one or two blogs on my phone.  I prefer to use my laptop.  For one I dont need to wear my glasses to read it - yes I know you can change the font size on a phone but then you have to scroll and scroll, not my cup of tea thanks.  I also like that I have to consciously go to the laptop to read blogs.  I feel I'm on my phone enough as it is.  Hubby and I comment on how the youngsters walk about glued to their phones, well, anyone looking at us at the breakfast table would think much the same of us!  I said before that I don't like the...

It's A Habit.

Image
You know a habit has been created when the dog comes in the back door next to where you're baking and you tear off a strip of kitchen roll and the dog spins round with his tail between his legs to face you looking very guilty! Hubby thought this was hilarious and I had no idea why the dog did this until hubby explained I am usually the lucky person who gets to clean his bum when it needs it and clearly the tearing of kitchen paper on his entry to the house indicated to him he had a dirty bum!  The things we teach our dogs without really meaning to!
